So......it's that time again, but seriously, thank you to everyone who helped get me into the Top 10 semi-final round for the horror film contest! They flew me to LA to do two different scenes for a “screen test” and also had a documentary crew film us in our down time. Yes, it was a bit wonky and reality show-esque, but I ended up having a blast regardless. The final round of voting has finally started and goes until May 26th at MIDNIGHT! I would truly appreciate it if you could help me out *once* more and vote for my screen test. If I win I get to shoot a feature SAG film in ROMANIA this summer! How freaking cool would that be?!?! Also, it would be a huge stepping stone for me in my career--huge!

Since you can vote for 1 woman and 1 man, if you don’t have your own preference for your male vote I’d love for you to also cast a vote for my partner “Billymac.” He really helped me make it into the top 10, so I’d like to do the same for him this time around. His screen test can be found at: http://massify.com/auditions/730 I apologize if any of you have already voted, I cannot see who or how many people vote for me so I’m sorry for the email if you have already helped me out!

Here are the instructions to vote if you ALREADY signed up for an account for the first round of voting. You're more than half way done already:

Step 1: Just go to www.massify.com and click “LOGIN” in the upper right hand corner of the page.

Step 2: Type your email address and password that you used to sign up for the account.

Step 3: Either type Aubreym21 into the white search box in the upper right hand corner of the page. Click on my profile then once it comes up click on “SCREEN TEST AUDITION” on the right side of the screen. Or

OR

Type in: http://massify.com/auditions/735 That will take you directly to my screen test. The voting works the same way as last time where you click the blue button that says, “VOTE NOW”. If you’ve done it correctly it turns to grey and says “You Voted”. You’re DONE! If you would like you can leave me a comment, but try to ignore the really immature and ridiculous things some people have posted….an encouraging word is nice but not necessary. THANK YOU AGAIN for helping me break into this crazy biz! Your support means the world to me.

The following is only for those who did NOT vote the last time and need to sign up for an account:

TO SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT TO VOTE:

Step 1: Go to www.massify.com click on “REGISTER” in the top right corner of the page.

Step 2: Fill out the forms, pick a screen name that will be your user ID.
Hey guys!

I finally got confirmation that I indeed did make it into the top 10 of the Massify.Com contest. I wanted to thank everyone for truly supporting me in this and giving me those extra votes which I know pushed me into the semi-finals! I can’t thank you guys enough for doing this, ‘cause I know it was a bit of a pain, but I feel pretty darn lucky to know people who really step up to the plate for their friends. The next step in this ridiculous song and dance is that the top 10 men and top 10 women do a screen test then ANOTHER round of online voting ensues to pick 2 men and 2 women who get lead roles in the horror film. So, if you don’t mind keeping your Massify accounts active long enough to give me one more vote in the final round you’d be lifesavers!. Once again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and hope I can return the favor in some way for you guys eventually!

Hey!

As I'm sure most of you have already heard via facebook or the chatter I'm in a contest to win a lead role in a horror film. The contest ends Friday and I have to make it into the top 10 by then. I'm currently at number 14, so it's so doable, but with an extra hard push these last few days. If you haven't voted the instructions are at the bottom of this post. If you have voted, THANK YOU, but if you know of anyone else who'd be willing to take 5 mins to sign up for an account and vote please forward my message along.

If I win, and become a huge famous star I promise a gigantic house party for everyone who helped out! Thanks again, guys!!

Here’s the nitty gritty details:

Step 1: http://www.massify.com – Click on “REGISTER” in the top right corner of the page.

Step 2: Fill out the forms, use that old AOL screen name you never check so you don’t get spam from Massify.com.YOU MUST CLICK “I am a Pro User (Actor, Director, etc…) in order to complete the form.
So, the summer is drawling to a close and I am in no way ready for it to end. Besides the fact that summer is my absolute favorite month [mostly because summer clothes rock...I love skirts and dresses...anyway...] but because I've had some pretty incredible times over the past few months. The last few weeks have been especially exciting and fun since Lynn and I embarked on BNL Extravaganza Part XXV. Lynn and I always have an outstanding time on these road/air trips - hijinx, debauchery (well, if you ask the hotel staffers that insist on shared beds and romantic getaway packages!), and meaningful conversation. Through all of this, things that had been angsty became a little less so. Where resolution is not possible that is at least a small comfort. We also managed a bit of down time, which I think is a first. We finally enjoyed a relaxing evening with some gracious company over some delicious BBQ. Hah. We decided to end the trip by finally answering the burning question, "who wears the pants in the relationship?" by Sumo wrestling each other. It was a draw.

As to what lies ahead for me, well this semester should prove very challenging and interesting for me. Considering I'm giving the whole "starving artist" lifestyle a good run for it's money. I'm already signed up for classes at the Esper Studio which teaches the Meisner approach to acting. It's a very prestigious studio that runs for two years. Granted, I don't know if I will stay for the entire run [I have a calling to go out to LA....] but one step at a time. Since those classes are only twice a week I'll be filling up my schedule with various other acting classes and interning a day or two at a casting director's office. Hopefully auditions will be appearing as well. I have one Saturday for a short film and another wednesday for a talkshow "interactive." [Don't ask what that is....I really have no idea.] So, keep your fingers crossed. As for the film, well it still's set to shoot this fall. I really couldn't be more excited for that to start though. I truly feel that it will be such a big stepping stone for me. These next few months are going to be really good for me I feel.

"....take a walk on the wild side...."

It was great to see Jamie, Shaun, Laura, LoraJ, JenX, and Robin...and I apologize if I forgot anyone! I will say that the shows where BNL open are just bizarre. It needs to be dark when BNL take the stage. I can't sing and dance as well with the sun beating down on one half of my face.

On other exciting news another celebrity has been signed onto the movie I'll be working on in the fall. Mandy Moore has officially signed on to play one of the lead roles in "Safety Glass." I have not really seen Mandy act in much but I'm well aware she has received some less than favorable criticism. Yet, for someone like me who only has a minor role this is really great thing. I hope and believe Mandy's name will automatically get this film into the hands of people who could help mass distribute it. Even having a minor role in a movie as well distributed as "Saved!" was would be an AMAZING accomplishment for me.

In other celebrity news, my mother met one of her idols about a month ago. She was gracious enough to let me join her in the picture since I was the one "who introduced her to the greatness that is Ben Folds."

Tomorrow is my last full day in NYC. It really hit me today how much it's going to tear me apart to be away from this city. I mean, I will be back fairly soon...sometime in August to move into my Apartment. I guess I've just gotten really used to this lifestyle. I'll even miss being locked inside dark studios from 10-7 everyday and savoring my hour lunch break with the girls in sunny Madison Sq. Park. I just wish NYU during the school year was more like this. Where I can spend the majority of my time dedicated to doing what I love more than anything. Unfortunately, their bullshit excuses for writing classes and arbitrary acting assignments really get in the way. These past six weeks really were good for me. Everything about them. I learned a hell of a lot, and most of it was not even about film acting. Mostly about me, as an actor and a person.

Apparently our studio is throwing us party at the end of the day, champagne and everything. Then I rush home to do some mad packing, go out for a great dinner at Roy's for Restaurant Week then hopefully some mad partying into the night. Saturday is a quick check out of the dorm before noon, then some brunch then a 2:00 showing of Jumpers. Then I'll be dragged kicking and screaming away.

God i love this fucking city. and i don't want to go to bed. i think i'll sleep with the window open tonight just to hear the horns and the sirens.

Alright, so I suck at this posting regularly stuff. Anyway, I've spoken to many of you recently at shows and given you the update on my school status in person, but for those still following along at home, here it is:

NYU has forced me to take a leave of absence for the semester. Apparently, being a nice person and letting your school know that the film you were cast in may interefere with school and mess up the work of your scene partner will eventually mess up your life. I was advised [incorrectly] that taking an academic only semester was okay. I figured that way I could stay on top of things and if I had to miss school for the film it would only effect me. After enrolling in new classes and buying textbooks I received a call letting me know that what I was doing was not allowed. So, the next day I had to go in and withdrawl for the semester. At first I was really frustrated because this meant that I'd have to find temporary housing in NYC, because there was absolutely no way that I was going home. There really is not much left for me in Philadelphia, I need to be in New York, studying and auditioning. But, things have worked themselves out. I'm enrolled in two classes currently that concern film and television, the medium I would like to get into. I'm starting another one later this month and I've been meeting with more agents, going on a voice over audition for a voice inside of a doll....[I had to sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider song as if I was a five year old BOY] and doing more business-type stuff. I went and got new headshots taken last week, which I really hope and believe will turn out fantastically. I LOVED the photographer, she was adorable and really fun and easy to work with. I think she knows how to capture great moments of people. Hopefully I will be able to post a shoot or two for you to see when I get them back....

Since I have more free time than usual I've been indulging in many BNL shows which have been incredible. This tour has been more than I've hoped for in the past and my love and admiration for the band is greater than ever. On a random note, I've enrolled myself into Bartending School. I start March 22nd and I go for two weeks and at the end I become a "certified bartender" and apparently the school I'm going to offers free lifetime job placement which should be great. I've also been apartment searching for next year, I don't know exactly what I'll be doing in terms of school, because it's beginning to look like the movie will not shoot until the fall. However, I have received absolute affirmation that it is going to happen THIS YEAR no matter what. So, even though I lost a semester I'm taking a 6-week summer semester at NYU in film and TV acting which combined with college credits from high school will make me a sophomore at the end of June anyway. In conclusion, the time off has given me opportunity to do things that really will help my career and that I would not have had time to do if I were still in school. The time off has been so worthwhile and one of the best things that happened.

Oh, and I would like to take this time to announce my new love: Butterfly Boucher. She's one of the openers on BNL's tour this year and I've fallen in love with her new CD, Flutterby. Go buy it now, everyone seems to think she's going to be a star. Her single, "Another White Dash" should be on the radio this month so look out for it.

Well, I just did something a bit bizarre. I dropped my studio classes for this semester. {Those are my acting classes, I have studio 3 days a week 9:00-6:00 essentially.) Have I lost my mind? Or my passion for acting you're asking? Not in the least! In fact, It's more feverent than ever. Basically, there is a very good chance that the film I mentioned earlier will film this March or April and this semester I work very intensively with a partner in studio. It's too much of a risk to keep going for the semester only to find out that I need to leave for three weeks and screw over my partners. So, I'm still at NYU but I'm taking an academic semester. I still am enrolled in the two academics I have to take in addition to studio and I'm taking one more 4 credit course. INTRO TO CHINESE PAINTING. WTF? You may be asking, and you're right. Except it would fulfill a humanities course that I need to take. Also, this late in the game, it was one of the only open classes and one that worked with my schedule now. So, the Grand Master Plan is to continue the semester taking these classes and promptly enroll myself in some acting classes outside of NYU. Classes I have been told from various sources that exceed the level of training found at NYU. Admist trying to stay a full time student at NYU and taking other acting classes, I hope to be doing a lot more auditioning. This should be made possible through the recent switch of managers. I will give more of an update on that once I meet with her next week.

The past week or so has been a whirlwind--It was definitely one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. It was really weird to have to "DROP" my acting classes and "ADD" Intro to Chinese Painting....but last night my fears were calmed a bit. I opened a book [True and False, by DAVID MAMET] written by one of the founding members of my studio, one of two primary guys who crafted the method of acting I was studying at Atlantic Theatre and read a few chapters.

The second or third chapter reads:
"A Generation That Would Like to Stay In School." I'm just going to pull out a few quotes. "Part of a requirement of a life in the theatre is to stay out of school...Formal education for the player is not only useless, but harmful. It stresses the academic model and denies the primacy of the interchange with the audience. The audience will teach you how to act and the audience will teach you how to write and to direct. The classroom will teach you how to obey, and obedience in thea theatre will get you nowhere. It's a soothing falsity."

Needlesstosay, my fears were calmed a bit. It's strange reading something like that by a guy who founded an acting school. Definitely made me think about things a little more....Well, I'm ready for the journey. Let's see....

I can't believe it's the end of the semester. Like most things, it seems like time has flown by, but it also feels like the past three or so months have been the longest ones of my life. I've discovered a lot about why I want to act, and it made me get back to the essence of it: i'm an artist. Over the past couple of years I have been so invovled and consummed with the business aspects and angles of acting that I forgot about the artistic elements of my career. NYU does tend to ignore the practicalities of show business, yet it was amazing to be able to be surrounded by art and other artists. Which is what life in NYC is like for me. Almost every weekend I've been here I've seen at least one show, and I love that. My list of movies/theatre is still pages and pages long, yet I can't believe how much I've been able to see in these past few months.
If things were not hectic enough with my grueling studio days I managed to find time to audition for a few things, one being an independent film. The audition went very well I am guaranteed a role within the film. It's narrowed down between two, but I can't express how excited I am. The film may be independent yet there are several big name celebrities associated with it. As soon as I know more information I will pass it along. In this stage of the production things are all still very tentative, so I don't want to give away anything too soon. Ah, but life is crazy...and Lynn must agree. Her patients seem to be even more mentally ill than the norm. One woman decided her finger might make a nice treat, and chopped it off and ate it. I don't think I'll even go into the patient who had the "fetid crotch" story.... *shakes head*

The next five weeks are going to be a trial in keeping myself occupied. It's difficult to go back to life in the suburbs after you're accustomed to the New York Minute....

I think it's been months since my last LJ post, and that is purely do to the lack of time I have now with school and auditions, but I really feel the need to cross post this. This was a reply to some of the negative reviews on the barenaked chatter concerning the 10/22/03 New York City Barenaked Ladies show at Hammerstein.

Right, so when people ask me how many times i've seen the band I usually say, "more than you think" or something else to avoid the embarassing truth. I feel it necessary to say that out of all the 43 bnl shows i've ever been to NYC's show could quite possibly have been the best, or maybe "second best." I know that a lot of that had to do with the fact that I was in the front row and I didn't have to look at all the shit going on in the back but NYC's show also contained the one of the most emotional and moving experiences in live musical history ever. Steve's personal dedication and tearful rendition of "War on Drugs" with the seamless save of the vocals by Ed when Steve lost it at the climax is something I will never forget. The hair on my body stood straight up for several minutes after the song ended. I don't think I'll ever be able to hear that song without thinking about that performance. I'm sure a lot of the emotion that came from seeing Steve whipe the tears from his face was lost to those who were hidden behind drunk fans on the floor or a million miles away in the mezz. Not only was War on Drugs breathtaking, but the band was fucking hysterical. Race was a complete idiot when choosing questions and BNL managed to keep it alive throughout the bullshit being fed to them. The fact that this tour incompasses everything I've ever hoped for in a tour probably has a lot to do with my high opinion of the show. I still thought BNL might be bullshitting this "we're playing every song we've ever written" thing the second before I heard them break into "Having a baby." For a hardcore fan a show like this is a fantasy made reality. No, it's not for everyone, in fact it's not for most of their fans. Their hardcore following is only a small portion of the concert-goers we see at the shows. Yes, BNL needs to appease them or else they'd be out of a job, quickly. Yet, they decide for one tour their going to abandon their "profit" making instincts and appease the hardcore fans while having a damn good time doing it. Jesus. How lucky are we?

I thought the band looked happy to be on the road, and thrilled to be playing all of their new songs for everyone. Yeah, there was a lot of pimping of the new album at the show, and it was well justified. The album came out less than 24 hours before as Ed noted. They're excited. They want us to be excited and isn't that one of the purposes of touring? To promote new material?

I'll never forget this show. Seeing old friends, hearing old favorites [straw hat! lovers! ENID!], hearing new favorites, [TAKE IT OUTSIDE! UNFINISHED [which is most definitely a live song, the album version doesn't hold a candle to it.] and FOR YOU [around an old fashioned mic...*unplugged*] and complete honesty and comittment from the band. I'm sorry that everyone who paid the same ticket price that I did, did not get to see the show I did. Trust me, it was worth every penny.

This is just like the "recommendations" you see when you open amazon.com. So, everynow and then I check the list of programs Tivo has recorded automatically for me and see if I actually like anything it picked out. Today I saw that it recorded the AIAS Awards. I had no idea what that was so I watched a bit of it and realized it was the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. [ie. an awards show for Video and Computer games!] I was immediately interested since I used to be a major, major video game junkie. [I have just about every early-mid 90's video game system created. Unfortunately, time constraints have not allowed me to be as dedicated as I used to be to them....] I then became even more interested when I finally realized why my lovely Tivo had recorded this for me, Dave Foley [from KITH] was hosting the awards show. I was highly amused as it was by the show and getting to see screen shots of the absolute top games and graphics out there today when it went to commercial. I was being lazy and decided to let the commercials run through while I tried to do some work. All of the sudden I hear, "If you take your play seriously, then get to EB GAMES!" in a voice that sounded strangely like mine. I looked up and was shocked to see the commercial that I had done the voice over for a couple weeks ago on the air. It was mere coincidence that I happened to catch it, and I'm thrilled that I even have it saved to hard disk via Tivo. I will be sure to transfer it to VHS for my demo reel that I'm in the process of putting together.

Even though it's still a small step, it's just a bit reassuring to see some of your first professional work actually on air and serving its purpose. Yay for working!

Again, it has been way too long since the last update. Life has been treating me fairly well though. I just returned from a really wonderful vacation in Key West, Florida. It's a bit of a tradition in our family to go down there every Spring. I believe this past year was my parents 23rd trip down. The best part is that we all know the island really well so we know our favorite places to eat, the stores we must look at, and that the best way to get around town is to rent a scooter. The scooters are an absolute blast since they're gas powered and allowed on all the roads. Everyone, including the locals, use them to buzz around the narrow streets and get around the trucks that barely fit down the streets. This year the trip was a bit different for me. I've never taken anyone down there with me, except this year Jim joined us about three days into our vacation. It was fantastic to have someone to hang out with that wasn't a parental figure for once. We went parasailing, jet skiiing, swimming, 'scooting', eating [holy shit did I gain a lot of weight....what can I say though, I am an absolute sucker for seafood and there is no place where you can get it fresher.] and we just lounged around as well. The weather was great, except it did rain one night but not enough to put a damper on the evening. I figured out that Pina Coladas are the nectar of the gods as well....

To end, I will leave you with a photo of my dad and myself being "really cool" down at our pad in Key West.....

    <lj:music>Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven</lj:music>

Hey everyone. Yes, I am alive I have just been continuing my streak of being internet absent. The last time I posted I talked about how I was sick and how I had finally gotten my first voice-over job. Fortunately, my voice cleared up [it took a lot of hot salt-water and Halls] and I was able to do it with no problem. It went really well, in fact it only took about 2 1/2 hours. They called me the EB Games local spokeswoman. Woot! It's great because I'm actually pimping something I do enjoy--video games.
In other aspects of life things are going well. I'm having more and more of a blast with Jim each time we hang out. He's really becoming a really great friend and I'm thrilled I've found someone who actually likes to do things on the weekends.
Life is moving at a very fast pace for me right now and I know that once I get to College it's only going to move faster. This is not to say that I wasn't absolutely ESTATIC to see that Guster is coming to UPENN April 27th. I will be there. No matter *what*. I am in dire need of a concert. I'm sure there are plenty of other music geeks out there that share those sentiments.
Last night I went to go see Tick, Tick, Boom with a bunch of my fellow theatre geeks. It's written by Jonathan Larson the same person who wrote Rent. I knew it contained some aspects that were similar to his life but, it's almost autobiographical. The lead's name is Jonathan and he is a musical theatre writer. The show is he working on in Tick, Tick Boom is called Suburbia and Larson actually did write a show called that before Rent. Overall, I really recommend it, especially if you enjoy Rent's music. It has the same sound as that....very rockish and the cast is very small--3 people. It's interesting to see a musical with that small of cast with rock music. It's on tour right now so if it does come near you be sure to see it.
I am now off to the mall....a place I haven't been in ages. I will hopefully check in again soon.

    <lj:music>Susan Vega - Tom's Diner</lj:music>

Yes, it's been ages since I've updated either my blog or my LJ. I guess I've had some valid reasons for not doing so, though. The first of them being that I've spent every free moment I've had recently out of the house and hanging out with this incredible guy, Jim, that I met over a month ago. It's really amazing because he actually *likes* to go out and do things. Most of my friends are female [not by choice really, just the way it happened] and with some of them it's like pulling teeth to get them out of the house even for dinner. This past weekend I made a trip to Blue Mountain for some decent skiing. Now, if I had asked any of my friends to go skiing for a day with me I'm sure I would've gotten plenty of excuses why they couldn't or didn't want to go. This time, the idea to go skiing wasn't even mine, in fact most of it was planned by Jim. It's absolutely fabulous to not have to worry about whether I'll actually get out of the house this upcoming weekend and do something. I finally feel like I'm not wasting weekends and it gives me more incentive to work harder during the week.

Unfortunately, I caught the virus that is running really rampant around here. I have a horrible sore throat and an incredible headache that doesn't even seem to want to fade with insane doses of advil. Apparently it lasts 3 days so I should almost be through with it. I'm pretty upset that I got something that affects my voice [I sound like a man] because I found out today that I booked that voice over for EB games. I'm really thrilled with this since this will be my first professional [paid] voice over for a commercial. I believe I'll be doing the voice over for a television commercial, but sometimes they also use the audio for a radio version as well. Also, this will be the most I've ever been paid to work as an actress. Which is really exciting for me as well. I could get around $600 for this if I work two days. Honestly, though at this point in my career I would do absolutely anything for free because the experience of working is so much more valuable then money. The money can come later when I'm not busy trying to boost my resume.

Sorry for the lack of updates for the past few days. Life has been really hectic--and I love every freaking minute of it. This crazy non-stop lifestyle is what I've been looking for...it's nice to put the internet aside for a while every now and then. Anyway, I have a question. Look at this picture and tell me if the star has any satanic or weird ass meaning I'm missing. I just drew it with Paint Shop Pro and I'm thinking about using it for something, but a friend of mine said it resembled a symbol she had seen elsewhere.

Please tell me she's crazy...

    <lj:music>bah, the cd just ended....</lj:music>

Yesterday I made a quick trip to NYC for a voice over audition. We got up there in record timing-1 Hour and 23 minutes. This one was for a propane commercial and I played a "peppy teenage girl." Unfortunately, the copy was short and I didn't have much to say. The experience of doing a VO audition was worth it...and that's what this is all about. We got home in about an hour and 45 minutes, which was still very impressive.

You know, before I always thought you could never have too much of a good thing. I don't know if I feel that way now. While it's comforting to know that dedication does pay off and you will eventually get what you want, having it come all at the same time is unnerving. Also, another thing that has been a tad bit scary lately is the fact that I can drastically change my mind and feelings very quickly. Life's moving at an extremely rapid pace right now, but this is what I wanted, right?

...who needs sleep?

    <lj:music>Ben Folds Five-She Don't Use Jelly [Cover]</lj:music>

I wish I could find some song lyrics to summarize what exactly has been happening the past week, but I really don't think they exist. It's been an almost non-stop party, except it started at around 9:30 PM and lasts until 7 or 8 in the morning. Completely crazy, completely insane, completely exhausting, but completely worth it. I really had some serious doubts about Winter vacation this year since it would be free from concerts or a vacation of any sort. It has proved me very wrong by showing me that fun actually exists in this hellhole of a suburb. It just took me all my life to find it. NYE was classic. I drove down to Maryland [alone....since my partners in crime were not permitted out that evening...] and met up with one of my closest friends. We grew up together in Maryland even though she's a few years older than me and almost graduating college. A good friend of hers was having a party at her house. There were only about 10 or 12 of us there but there was plenty of champagne, kick ass tunes, and board games. It was low key, but so much fun. We even all went to bed at around 4:00 AM. The brunch New Year's Day consisting of chicken nuggets and cheese fries was so freaking good.

I absolutely love the fact that we are now "regulars" at our local diner. I've always wanted to walk into some kind of dining or drinking establishment and have everyone know my name.... Maybe it was from watching too much "Cheers" as a kid, but it's fun. <g>
